POSITION DESCRIPTION

Support Worker
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Assisting and supporting participants with day-to-day activities.
TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT:
Full Time / Part Time / Casual
REPORT TO:
Registered Nurse / Enrolled Nurse / Director
LOCATION:
Perth, Western Australia
MAIN DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Communicate frequently with patients to identify their needs and attend to them accordingly.
- Ensure that appointments are made and adhered to with patients’ physicians as required.
- Be responsible for the well-being and safety of patients under care.
- Interact respectfully with patients and their relatives when necessary.
- Keep all matters related to patients or their families confidential at all times.
- Extend support/care periods if the need arises.
- Notify the participant’s physician/director and family in the case of serious side effects or health-related issues.
- Assist with household duties such as laundry, cleaning, meal preparation, gardening, shopping, and supporting them in their interests and hobbies.
- Assist participants with personal care needs.
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:
- Certificate IV in Disability or equivalent
- Current driving license
- Current CPR/First Aid certification
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of two years’ experience in disability, community, or acute care
SKILLS:
- Good communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills to easily identify the needs of each participant
- Ability to remain patient and calm irrespective of provocation from the participant being cared for or supported
- Compassionate approach in carrying out duties
- Flexibility in working hours and conditions
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- High level of trust and honesty at all times
- Excellent problem-solving abilities
- Adaptability to different conditions and cases
