POSITION DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE:
Support Worker

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Assisting and supporting participants with day-to-day activities.

TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT:
Full Time / Part Time / Casual

REPORT TO:
Registered Nurse / Enrolled Nurse / Director

LOCATION:
Perth, Western Australia

MAIN DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Communicate frequently with patients to identify their needs and attend to them accordingly.
  • Ensure that appointments are made and adhered to with patients’ physicians as required.
  • Be responsible for the well-being and safety of patients under care.
  • Interact respectfully with patients and their relatives when necessary.
  • Keep all matters related to patients or their families confidential at all times.
  • Extend support/care periods if the need arises.
  • Notify the participant’s physician/director and family in the case of serious side effects or health-related issues.
  • Assist with household duties such as laundry, cleaning, meal preparation, gardening, shopping, and supporting them in their interests and hobbies.
  • Assist participants with personal care needs.

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:

  • Certificate IV in Disability or equivalent
  • Current driving license
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of two years’ experience in disability, community, or acute care

SKILLS:

  • Good communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills to easily identify the needs of each participant
  • Ability to remain patient and calm irrespective of provocation from the participant being cared for or supported
  • Compassionate approach in carrying out duties
  • Flexibility in working hours and conditions
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • High level of trust and honesty at all times
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities
  • Adaptability to different conditions and cases
